Am I a 'bad mom' for taking my son to the Philippines right before his high school entrance exams? 😂

I struggled with this for months. But after 30 days at Hana Academy, watching my 9th grader laugh with friends from across the globe and seeing my twins become so much more confident, I have zero regrets. We found an 'International Classroom' that no cram school could ever replicate.

Take my manager Min. he's a legend at our school, mostly because he's always holding this 1,000cc monster coffee! ☕️

I finally found the source:
A hidden gem tucked right next to a car wash. This is the ultimate Filipino vibe,
getting your car cleaned while sipping a latte bigger than your face for just a few pesos.

It's cheap, it's massive, and it's honestly a bit insane. I've mastered the 'chill' lifestyle here, but finishing three of these a day like Min? I'm still not on that level! 😂

長大後,我們帶著孩子出國留學,
心裡卻總掛念著留在老家的他們。

「帶孩子去菲律賓三個月,那爸媽怎麼辦?」這是我在語言學校最常聽到的猶豫。
直到今年,我們決定為 50+ 的長輩們辦一場「樂齡夏令營」。不是為了讓他們學會艱深的文法,而是讓他們在熱帶的陽光下,
找回那顆久違的、好奇的心。

我看到有些長輩,原本擔心自己英文不好,結果卻在克拉克的咖啡廳裡,用簡單的單字跟當地人聊得開懷大笑。我看見他們每天早上在校園散步,下午去游泳,晚上跟著我們一起吃芒果。

The biggest change I saw in my child after 365 days of "accidental" study abroad.

Does every study abroad journey need a perfect plan?

In 2025, I took my 7-year-old to the Philippines for a 3-month course. One "accidental" school tour and a "Mom, I want to stay" later, we ended up living there for a year.

Solo parenting abroad was exhausting—the chores, the house hunting, the logistics. But seeing him tan from the sun, brave in the pool, and speaking English with a smile made every struggle worth it.

We’re heading home now, healthy and full of memories. Sometimes, the best thing a parent can do is just say "yes" to the unexpected.

Taking your kids abroad to learn English, the biggest fear isn't the tuition,
but the kids being restless or the parents feeling overwhelmed.

Recently, I was touched by Lily's story.
She came with her husband and found that learning isn't just about textbooks

他本來要去馬達加斯加傳教,卻因為疫情轉彎來到菲律賓。他放下醫生的身分,在這裡學游泳、搭吉普尼、跟廚師學泡菜、甚至去 80 塊的小理髮店剪頭。

小時候,是爸媽牽著我們的手去認識世界。
長大後,我們帶著孩子出國留學,
心裡卻總掛念著留在老家的他們。

「帶孩子去菲律賓三個月,那爸媽怎麼辦?」這是我在語言學校最常聽到的猶豫。
直到今年,我們決定為 50+ 的長輩們辦一場「樂齡夏令營」。不是為了讓他們學會艱深的文法,而是讓他們在熱帶的陽光下,
找回那顆久違的、好奇的心。

我看到有些長輩,原本擔心自己英文不好,結果卻在克拉克的咖啡廳裡,用簡單的單字跟當地人聊得開懷大笑。我看見他們每天早上在校園散步,下午去游泳,晚上跟著我們一起吃芒果。

解決長輩出國的三大痛點:
安全、預算、還有孤單

最讓家長安心的,是我們解決了所有的「不方便」。長輩出門最怕迷路或坐車麻煩,我們安排了 10km 內的免費接送;他們怕報價複雜,我們就把雜費全部透明化。甚至,如果你們跟朋友一起湊滿 6 個人,還有一份驚喜回饋,就像是老友組團出國度假一樣簡單。

一人報名就成團,因為我們知道,

The biggest change I saw in my child after 365 days of "accidental" study abroad.

Does every study abroad journey need a perfect plan?

In 2025, I took my 7-year-old to the Philippines for a 3-month course. One "accidental" school tour and a "Mom, I want to stay" later, we ended up living there for a year.

Solo parenting abroad was exhausting—the chores, the house hunting, the logistics. But seeing him tan from the sun, brave in the pool, and speaking English with a smile made every struggle worth it.

We’re heading home now, healthy and full of memories. Sometimes, the best thing a parent can do is just say "yes" to the unexpected.

others make you want to bring your family back again.

Taking your kids abroad to learn English, the biggest fear isn't the tuition,
but the kids being restless or the parents feeling overwhelmed.

Recently, I was touched by Lily's story.
She came with her husband and found that learning isn't just about textbooks
it's a dynamic environment. The teachers know how to guide,
making learning flexible and fun.

The most beautiful part is the whole family meeting people from all over the world.
Watching your kids speak English naturally...
that's a kind of pride only parents truly understand.

Today we celebrated our school's 'Big Dad,' Bryan. The surprise was entirely planned by our teachers and staff—even I was kept in the dark!

Bryan isn't aggressive; he’s quiet, but during the toughest times, he quietly carries the weight to ensure every staff member is cared for like family.

Just read an inspiring reflection from a 20-year veteran doctor who studied at Hana Academy. After trading his stethoscope for a dictionary, he learned not just English, but how to swim, ride a Jeepney, and truly live local life. 他是一位有20年資歷的醫生在我們學校的心得,感觸好深。
他本來要去馬達加斯加傳教,卻因為疫情轉彎來到菲律賓。他放下醫生的身分,在這裡學游泳、搭吉普尼、跟廚師學泡菜、甚至去 80 塊的小理髮店剪頭。

他說:「英文是這輩子都要背負的作業,多走幾步,世界就不一樣。」
看著他在校園裡跟小朋友們玩在一起,我才發現,最好的教育不是教你考滿分,而是教你「如何熱愛生活」。
