Issue 2 of the news we send every Sunday.
Hello from HANA Academy in Clark. Weekly News issue 2 covers the week from October 26 to November 1, and the star of the week was without a doubt Friday's Halloween Fiesta.
This week's numbers
Review of the week — a Japanese family's month
A Google Maps review from a Japanese family of three, a couple and their child, who studied with us for a month. As the only Japanese family here at the time, their child made friends in English instead of Japanese. The review also covers the photos and videos the kindergarten teachers sent every day, group lessons with students from Korea, China, Saudi Arabia and Russia, and weekend trips to a dinosaur theme park, a safari park and the mall.

Halloween Fiesta — a day with Coco
On Friday morning, October 30, the HANA Academy lobby turned into a Mexican Day of the Dead festival. This year's theme was the Disney·Pixar film "Coco". Under sugar-skull garlands and an orange and black balloon arch, children arrived one by one dressed as Elsa, skeletons, pumpkins and Buzz Lightyear.

The Fiesta schedule, 9 am to noon
At 9 am the first event was trick-or-treat. Children carried their baskets from one classroom door to the next to collect candy from the teachers, while parents were busy filming on their phones.

After the opening remarks came the games. Balancing a paper cup on a stick held in the mouth made children and adults alike look very serious, and in the music game parents scooped up their children until the lobby was full of laughter. Snack time brought Filipino-style spaghetti, lumpia, fried bites and macaroni salad, and a costume fashion show and awards closed the morning.

The teachers' classroom decorating contest
This Halloween the teachers turned classroom decorating into a contest. They framed their doors with paper marigolds and brought scenes from Coco to each one, from Mama Imelda and a guitar-playing skeleton lady to the Rivera family photo album. The three classrooms picked by the academy managers' vote were Teacher Loida's Room 6, Teacher Ann's Room 16 and Teacher Pat's Room 15.

The teachers dressed up as characters from Coco too, with sombreros, flower crowns and even a framed photo of Mama Coco, to welcome the children.

Place of the week — Lakewood Golf Academy
Lakewood CC is a golf club with an 18-hole tournament course, and HANA Academy runs a US college golf scholarship program there together with Lakewood Golf Academy. From the program's own lodging it is a three-minute walk to the course and free driving range and to a sports center with a gym, sauna and bowling alley, and SM mall is a five-minute drive away. Students from the first year of middle school to the second year of high school can apply, even as beginners in English or golf.
