Starting Over at 50 — A Solo Study Abroad Story

A student who left for Clark alone at 50 shares her honest story. It is never too late to learn English.

Is 50 too late to study English abroad?

One of our students recently shared her story on a Korean study-abroad community. Here it is, translated from the Korean original.

Leaving for a language course alone at 50, I was very worried at first. But once I arrived at HANA Academy in Clark, age was never an issue. The teachers were kind and considerate, explaining things slowly at my level, and little by little I regained my confidence in English.

Although I came alone, I met many different people at the academy and never felt lonely — and in a safe environment, I could focus on studying and daily life. It was a truly satisfying time: not only did my English improve, but I took on a whole new challenge.

To anyone hesitating because of their age: it is never too late to learn English. I especially recommend HANA Academy in Clark to women in their 40s and 50s thinking about a solo language study trip.

If age has been holding you back — our 1:1 classes are tailored to your level and your pace. It is okay to be a beginner, and it is okay to come alone.
